The Rede van Texel is a talk by a famous Dutch person. Rede in Dutch means speech, but also anchorage. In the Golden Age, the ships of the Dutch East India Company would be anchored in the Reede van Texel at Oudeschild, waiting for favourable winds to sail out to sea. The talks are named after this anchorage and are held at Zeemanskerkje in Oudeschild. Renowned Dutch thinkers discuss a subject that is relevant to all of Dutch society. ‘After all, Texel is the Netherlands in miniature, which makes it a good base for interesting ideas.’ Which famous Dutch person will be giving the talk this year is still a surprise. Previous speakers included Eberhard van der Laan, historian James Kennedy, Ahmed Aboutaleb, philosopher laureate of the Netherlands Marli Huijer and Boris van der Ham. A special talk in a special setting.
